Mr.  Lang's game analysis:

This is going to be a live dog all year long.

When Ron English took over this program back in 2009, he decided it was going to be trial by fire and give kids playing time right away.

Of all division 1 football programs in the country that year it was English and Eastern Michigan that started more true freshman than any other team in america.

In 2009 they went 0-12, in 2010 they went 2-10 and last year they went 6-6.

Guess what folks, they have finally grown up.

Offensively they are going to be fine with senior QB Alex Gillet leading the way along with senior running back Dominique Sherrer and 3 of their top 4 receivers back.

The key is their offense line which returns 9 of their top 10. This offense is going to be good.

Defensively, they struggled early on but got much better down the stretch holding N.Illinois to season lows in yardage and points in an 18-12 road loss to end the year.

As for Ball State, they return 5 starters back on defense, a defense which ranked 119th in the country last year and were outgaineid by 150 yards in their last 7 MAC games.

Those 5 starters are going to have their hands full with this E. Michigan attack tonight.

Unlike Eastern Michigan, which has been on the uptick every year since English has taken over, Ball State has headed the other way under 2nd year coach Pete Lembo but dissension and a 2-6 finish will do that to a program.

Last but not least, Ball State is 1-7 ATS last 8 as a home favorite and I truly feel the wrong team is favored.

Eastern Michigan has the better offensive, the better defense, the better coach and they are getting points.

This little doggy barks loudly in Indiana tonight.

TUESDAY: $680.84 ON THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES +107 OVER THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS

Dom Chambers was fired. From his website:

Dom Chambers in no longer a featured handicapper at this site effective August 28. This time of year, when football season is getting underway, I generally make additions or subtractions to the site based on the prior productivity of a particular handicapper. With that in mind, I released Dom Chambers on Monday, August 27. Dom is a great guy, and he enjoyed a good football season last year with 501 dimes of net profit, with the bulk coming in the NFL where he cleared 406 units. But basketball, both the NBA and college hoops, had been a disaster and the baseball season was even worse. Thus the decision to release him. We are currently training another handicapper to make his debut on the site in the next week or so and I will be reaching out to another about exploring the opportunity to join us in late September. The core group of handicappers at this site have been intact for years, but part of my job is to try to continually upgrade the talent level because there can be no complacency in this business if we expect to make money.

Today I am fading Jeff Benton.

The Dominator's game analysis:

A month or so ago, A.J. Burnett was lights out, especially at home. Something has happened and the magic is gone.

The Pirates start Burnett, but he has struggled lately. Overall, he is 18-5 with a 3.63 ERA. But in his last three starts, his ERA is 6.75 with a WHIP of 1.93.

The Pirates have hit a bump in the road, losing five of their last six games.

The Cardinals, on the other hand, are going in the opposite direction. Kyle Lohse gets the start. In his last three starts, he is 1-0 with a 1.31 ERA and a WHIP of 1.08.

The Cards have won five of their last six games.

Take the hotter team with the hotder pitcher.

The Dominator's game analysis:

After the first two preseason games and there are a lot of people wondering just how bad the Jets’ offense can get?

After two games, the Jets have a total of nine points.

It’s only preseason and it’s too early to push the panic button, but it’s clear the Jets have their issues.

Mark Sanchez is having trouble moving the offense and Tim Tebow has trouble with a conventional offense.

The Jets will unleash Tebow and the wildcat offense in the regular season, but Coach Rex Ryan has said he will not use the wildcat in the preseason.

That means the Jets’ offense as it is presented will struggle, especially in the second half when Tebow takes over.

The Panthers are in rebuilding mode, but quarterback Cam Newton is making strides and the Panthers have scored some points.

Carolina will be more successful with their offense and should score some points against the Jets

Getting points in this situation is a nice edge. The Jets may come back for the win, but covering three may be tough for the Jets. Hell, they might not score more than three points. So covering three will be even tougher.

Mr. Lang's game analysis:

It's going to be a big year for the boys from Motown.

After losing to the Browns at home to start the preseason the Lions got right back on the winning track with a destruction of the Ravens 27-12.

That now puts the Lions at 9-1 ATS last 10 preseason games and now they look to keep that run going out west.

As for the Raiders, we all saw them on Monday night versus the Cowboys and folks things haven't gotten any better.

In a nutshell, new coach, same Carson Palmer, no receivers, this team is in for a very long year.

The fact the Lions are on a 9-1 ATS preseason run makes it very evident to me their head coach cares about winning these games.

My people in Michigan tell me he was furious after the Browns loss at home to open the preseason and it showed in the big win over the Ravens.

Matthew Stafford gets the first 3 quarters with Hill and Kellen Moore moping up while the Raiders mop up with Terrell Pryor.

Advantage Lions.

Lay this small number as the boys from Detroit roll to another preseason win and cover.

The Dominator's game analysis:

These are two of the top teams in the American League. This pick is based on the pitching matchup.

The Tigers start Rich Porcello. He is having a decent season, going 9-8 with a 4.67 ERA.

Porcello will give you a decent outing, but you will have to have some run support. In his last four starts, he has not given up more than four runs.

Zack Greinke has not been a good pickup for the Angels. Overall, he is 10-5 with a 4.01 ERA. In his last three starts, he is 1-1 with an ERA of 7.00 with a WHIP of 1.722.

The only way the Angels will win this game is Greinke gets some outstanding run support.

Porcello has faced the Angels five times in his career, and the Tigers are 5-0 in those starts.

He knows the Angels and how to pitch them.

Take the team with the better pitcher.

The Dominator's analysis:

The Packers are winless in their first two preseason games. I would not go as far as to say they are putting a lot of stock in winning this game, but the starters are going to play the first half.

With Aaron Rodgers playing the first half, I expect the Packers’ offense to be a bit more efficient.

The Bengals are going to play their starters into the third quarter.

You cannot expect complicated defenses from either side. You are going to see vanilla coverages. But with the starters playing, both teams are looking more for timing and execution on offense. So, you can expect there to be some scoring.

This is the highest total of Week 3. And this number opened up at 42 and has gone up three points.

The Packers have been an over team, going over 8 of their last 10 preseason games.

The Bengals gave up nearly 400 yards passing to the Falcons in Week 2. If they give up similar numbers, the Packers will score more than the 19 points the Falcons scored.

Look for both teams to be put up some points in this contest.

Take the over.

The Dominator's game analysis:

The Angels are having their problems right now and are in a struggle to try and make the playoffs. The Red Sox are having a down season.

But for Boston, Clay Buchholz is a bright spot. Overall, he is 11-3 with a 4.19 ERA. In his last three starts, he is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA.

Since coming back from the disabled list, he has given up four runs once. In his last seven starts, the Red Sox are 5-2.

The Angels start Jared Weaver, which normaly is an automatic win. But Weaver has hit a bump in the road. Overall, he is 15-3 with a 2.74 ERA. But in his last three starts, he is 1-2 with a 5.68 ERA. He has lost his last two starts, giving up 12 runs in 10 innings. This is not typical of a Weaver performance.

With Buchholz pitching well, the margin for error will be small and the Red Sox have the edge.

Overall, the Angels are the better team, but in this spot the Red Sox have the edge.

Take the Red Sox.

The Dominator's game analysis:

This play is based on the starting pitching matchup. This is a case of two pitchers going in opposite directions.

David Price starts for the Rays. He’s the ace of the staff and pitching like it. His last loss was June 26. Overall, he is 16-4 with a 2.39 ERA.

In his last three starts, he is 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA and a WHIP of 0.77. He has allowed two runs in those three starts, including two shutouts.

The Royals are going to be hard-pressed to get anything off him.

Conversely, the Royals start Luke Hochevar, who has been struggling. In his last three starts, he is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA and a WHIP of 1.15.

The Rays have won five in a row and eight of their last 10 games. In all eight games, they covered the run line.

They are scoring runs and with Price on the mound, it’s not going to be hard to cover the run line.

Take the Rays on the run line.

The Dominator's game analysis:

The Orioles are one of the surprise teams in the playoff race.

Today, the Orioles start Miguel Gonzalez. And, he has been on a tear recently.

In his last three starts, he is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a WHIP of 0.952. In 21 innings, he has given up three runs. The Orioles have won his last four starts.

Ryan Dempster gets his fourth start for the Rangers. In his first three starts for the Rangers, he is 1-1 with an 8.30 ERA. In 17 1/3 innings, he has given up 19 runs. He has given up eight runs twice and gave up three to the Red Sox.

He is definitely struggling with his new surroundings.

The Rangers have been a funny team. They have an abundance of talent and have just won three of their last four games. Prior to that, they lost three in a row. It’s a question of whether their offense takes the night off.

With Gonzalez pitching, the Rangers may be stifled a bit here. Now, pile on that Dempster is giving up some runs and it’s a good spot for the underdog Orioles.

The Orioles have won five of their last seven games.

Take the underdog.

The Dominator's game analysis:

This is a situation where one team is just better and one team has the better pitcher going.

And with Josh Beckett, you would think the Red Sox would have the pitching edge.

Wrong!

Beckett has not been himself this season. Overall, he is 5-10 with a 5.19 ERA and a WHIP of 1.31. In his last three starts, it gets even worse, going 0-1 with a 10.38 ERA. In his last start, he gave up six runs in 5 1/3 innings against Baltimore.

Quite simply, he’s been getting shelled.

For the Yankees, Hiroki Kuroda starts, and he has been a pleasant surprise for the Yankees.

Overall, he is 11-8 with a 3.06 ERA. But in his last three starts, he is 1-1 with a 1.66 ERA and a WHIP of 1.02.

With the way Beckett has getting battered, you might think the over would be a good play. But in the last four home starts for Kuroda, the under for the Yankees is 4-0. The total is set at 9, and this could easily be a 6-2 type of game.

The run line is the way to go. In the last six losses by the Red Sox, the run line has covered all six times. In the last six wins by the Yankees, the run line is 5-1.

Take the Yankees on the run line.

The Dominator's game analysis:

Here are two teams looking for a playoff berth, but these starting pitchers are going in opposite directions.

Alex Cobb starts for the Rays. Overall, he is 7-8 with a 4.08 ERA. But in his last three starts, he has really picked up his game, going 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a WHIP of 0.76.

He is one of the reasons the Rays are still in the talk about the wild card.

For the Angels, C.J. Wilson starts. He has not lived up to the hype when the Angels signed him in the off-season. Oveirall, he is 9-9 with a 3.32 ERA. But has had his troubles lately, going 0-2 in his last three starts with an ERA of 6.88. Over that span, his WHIP is 2.00.

Since June 26, he is 0-5 with a 5.04 ERA.

The Rays have won the first two games of this series and have been hot lately, going 8-2 in their last 10. In the first two games, the Rays beat Dan Haren and Jared Weaver. Wilson is one of the struggling Angel starters.

The Angels have had a bit of a problem lately, losing five of their last seven games.

The Rays are 7-1 against the Angels this season. That trend will continue today.

The Dominator's game analysis:

The Dodgers have regained the lead in the N.L. West, while the Braves are chasing the Washington Nationals in the East.

In this series opener, the Dodgers send leftie Chris Capuano to the mound. He is coming off one of his best starts, as he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning in a 5-0 win over the Miami Marlins. He allowed two hits and struck out 10.

Capuano has had some success against Atlanta, winning his last three starts against the braves. In his last outing against Atlanta, he allowed six hits in seven innings and gave up a solo home run in a 7-2 win on April 23.

It’s going to be a bit more of a guess for the Braves as they activate Tommy Hanson off the disabled list to make the start. He has been out with a lower back strain.

The Dodgers’ offense has been clicking as they have scored at least five runs in each of their last five games. And have gone 4-1 in that stretch. They may be without Matt Kemp, who faces a possible suspension. Even without Kemp, the Dodgers have enough offense.

The Dodgers have the offense and the pitching to pull off the road win.

Take the Dodgers.

The Dominator's game analysis:

Kyle Lohse gets the start for the Cardinals. He has been outstanding lately, going 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA in his last three starts.

The Cardinals have been playing well lately, winning three of their last four games.

The D-Backs have hit a little bump. They have lost four of their last five games.

Trevor Cahill starts for Arizona. He is 1-1 with a 3.79 ERA in his last three starts.

The Cards and D-Backs have played five times so far this season. The Cardinals are 5-0 and covered the run line in all the games.

Take the Cardinals.

The Dominator's game analysis:

These are teams going in opposite directions, but it’s the one going down that is the right side here.

The Reds have won four in a row, but that was after losing five in a row. The Mets have lost three of their last four and six of their last eight games.

But this is the one start in the rotation, the Mets feel good about their chances.

The Mets start R.A. Dickey, and the knuckleballer has put together a Cy Young contender season. He is 15-3 with a 2.72 ERA and a WHIP of 1.00. For a knuckleiball pitcher, he does not walk batters. In his last three starts, he is even better, going 2-1 with a 1.17 ERA and a WHIP of 0.83.

If he has command of his pitch, the Reds will be hard pressed to score.

As for the Reds, Mike Leake starts. Overall, he is 4-7 with a 4.51 ERA. But he has struggled lately, as he is 0-1 with a 7.90 ERA in his last three starts.

In Dickey’s last three starts, the only game the Mets did not win was when they lost 3-1. Run support should not be the problem here. With Leake on the mound, the Mets should give Dickey all the run support he needs for the win.

Take the Mets.

The Dominator's game analysis:

This is a case of a good team against a bad team. And throw on top of that the good team has a good pitcher going. It’s a combination you can’t pass up.

The Detroit Tigers are fighting for the top of the A.L. Central, while the Twins are floundering this season.

Doug Fister starts for the Tigers. Overall, his numbers are all right, going 6-7 with a 3.48 ERA. But he has turned it up lately. Since the All-Star Break, he is 4-1 with a 1.79 ERA and a WHIP of 0.86. In his last three starts, he is 2-0 with a 1.54 ERA and a WHIP of 0.94.

And with the lineup that the Tigers have, it’s just too much for opponents to try and keep them off the scoreboard.

For the Twins, Brian Duensing starts. Overall, he is 2-7 with a 4.46 Era, but in his last three starts, he is 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA and his WHIP is 1.42.

He is going to give up some runs.

The Twins opened the series with a win, but I look for a bounce-back effort from the Tigers. With Fister going, the Twins’ offense will be kept at bay.

 The Dominator's game analysis:

The Tampa Bay Rays are on a tear right now. The Rays have won their last six games and eight of their last 10 games. Maybe it‘s a coincidence, but the Rays have not lost since Evan Longoria has returned to the lineup. He adds and offensive punch to the Rays.

For the Rays, Alex Cobb gets the start. Overall, he is 6-8 with a 4.32 ERA. But in his lat three starts, he is 2-1 with a 2.14 ERA. In his last two games, he has allowed only two earned runs. He is getting in a groove the same time his team is.

For the Mariners, Blake Beavan starts, he is 9-8 with a 5.12 ERA. In his last start, he allowed four runs in six innings against the Orioles.

The Mariners have stumbled a bit, losing five of their last seven games.

The Rays are streaking right now, have the better pitcher and are in groove.

Take the Rays.

The Dominator's game analysis:

For the Braves Ben Sheets starts. His comeback is nothing short of remarkable.

Overall, his ERA is 1.41 with a WHIP of 1.187. On the road, he is even better, going 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA. He has come in and given the Braves some quality starts.

Jonathan Niese starts for the Mets. He has a tougher season. Overall, he is 8-6 with a 3.82 ERA. At home, the ERA rises to 4.14. In his last three starts, he is 1-2 with and ERA of 5.21.

He has been getting worse.

The Braves have been on a roll lately, winning their last three games and five of their last six games.

The opposite is true for the Mets, as they have lost two in a row and five of their last six games.

The Braves are the hotter team with the better pitching. All the edges favor the Braves.

The Dominator's game analysis:

The Pirates remain a contender in the N.L. Central and one of the main reasons for their resurgence has been A.J. Burnett. He has flourished in Pittsburgh.

Overall, he is 14-3 with a 3.19 ERA. At home, he is 7-0 with a 2.00 ERA and a 1.049 WHIP. He gets even better in his last three starts. He is 3-0 with a 1.44 ERA and a WHIP of 0.560. He has been outstanding, especially at home.

In his last two starts, he held the Reds to two runs in 8 2/3 innings. The previous start, he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Cubs.

Look for him to shut down the Padres.

As for the Padres, Jason Marquis starts, and has had his problems. He is 7-10 with a 5.47 ERA. On the road, he is 4-4 with a 5.82 ERA.

Look for the Pirates to bounce back after losing the opener of the series.

The Pirates will get to Marquis, while Burnett shows no signs of slowing down.

Take the Pirates on the run line.

The Dominator's game analysis:

Scott Feldman starts for the Rangers. With what turned into an inconsistent pitching staff, Feldman has been a bright spot for the Rangers.
Overall, he is 5-6 with a 4.72 ERA. But at home, he is better with a 3-3 record and an ERA of 3.11. But it gets even better. In his last three starts, he is 3-0 with a 1.19 ERA. He has been in a groove lately.
He has given up three runs in his last three games.
For the Tigers, Max Scherzer gets the start. He is 10-6 with a 4.72 ERA. But it gets a little worse as he is 6-4 with a 4.94 ERA on the road. In his last three starts, he has a tougher time, going 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA.
The Tigers have lost two straight after winning six in a row. The Rangers have won their last two and also have gone 6-2 in their last eight games.
So far this season, the Rangers are 5-2 against the Tigers.
The pitching match up favors the Rangers. Add home field and the edges favor the Rangers.

THURSDAY: BACK FADING LANG, $523.60 ON THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS - 3 1/2 OVER THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Even though I lost my last play yesterday, the sports monitor is rating me the number one handicapper again for the last thirty days. I have personally handicapped about 5 games I think. The rest of the plays were all fading Brandon Lang or Dom Chambers. Being Number One is a big warning flag but it also shows its just as profitable in the long run to just play one game a day than a whole bunch of them.

Today I am back to fading Brandon Lang. Will this be Mr. Lang's 16th loss in a row? Lets hope so.

After losing my last bet on yesterday, my Labby Line today is X - 14 - 14 - X - 33.6..  I am betting to win 14 + 33.6 or 47.6 dimes or $476. My bet is $523.60 on the New England Patriots -3 1/2 over the New Orleans Saints to win $476 or 47.6 dimes.

If I win that bet, I will start a new Labby Line on Friday of 15 - 15 - 15 - 15 as my bankroll will be over $15,000.

If I lose today's bet my Labby Line for tomorrow will be X - 14 - 14 - X - 33.6 - 52.36.

WEDNESDAY: $336 ON THE COLORADO ROCKIES RUN LINE +1 1/2 -120 OVER THE LA DODGERS

There are so many paid handicappers at my sports monitor that give out 5 or 10 games a day. How do I compare with them total unit wise with me just giving out one pick a day? According to the sports monitor, I am Number One in units earned in the last thirty days. Not only betting one game a day may be simpler, it may be more profitable..

Here is my 30 day record:

I am fading Dom Chambers.

After winning my last bet on yesterday, my Labby Line today is X - 14 - 14 - X.  I am betting to win 14 + 14 or 28 dimes or $280. My bet is $336 on the Colorado Rockies run line + 1 1/2 -120 over the LA Dodgers to win $280 or 28 dimes.

If I win that bet, I will start a new Labby Line on Thursday of 15 - 15 - 15 -15 as my bankroll will be over $15,000.

The Dominator's game analysis:

The Dodgers have lost the first two games of this series and look anemic in the process, but things look to be changing a bit.

Chad Billingsley starts for the Dodgers and he has been on a tear since rejoining the lineup. Overall, his ERA is 3.74. But in his last three games, he is 3-0 with an ERA of 0.89. He has given up two runs in 20 1/3 innings.

He is attacking the batters and has been nearly untouchable.

For the Rockies, Jeff Francis starts and he has struggled lately. He is 1-2 with an ERA of 8.56 in his last three starts.

With Billingsley on the mound, the Dodgers have more confidence. The team, prior to these two losses, won the previous three games.

The Dodgers have the pitching edge and should be able to get to Francis, so the recipe is there for a big win for the Dodgers, who will be in a bounce-back game.

Take the Dodgers on the run line.

The Dominator's game analysis:

This is a case of going with the hotter team at home with the better pitcher. It’s a combination that’s just too good to pass up.

Jeff Karstens starts for the Pirates. Overall, he has nice stats and he is 4-2 with a 3.70 ERA. But in his last three starts, he is 2-0 with a 2.65 ERA and a WHIP of 1.176. At home, his numbers are even better, going 2-0 with a 0.43 ERA and a WHIP of 0.857.

All indications is that he will have a quality start and put the Pirates into a spot to win.

As for the D-Backs, Pat Corbin starts. Overall, he is 3-3 with a 4.32 ERA. On the road, he is 2-2 with a 5.57 ERA.

The D-Backs after winning four in a row, have gone south, losing their last three games.

The Pirates will score against Corbin. At home, the Pirates are extremely tough, going 34-16. Against lefties, the Pirates are 18-11.

All indications here point to the Pirates.

The Dominator's game analysis:

The Mariners start Jason Vargas, and he’s been on a tear lately. Overall, he is 12-7 with a 3.71 ERA. But in his last three starts, he has picked up his game. He is 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a 0.952 WHIP.

He has won his last five starts and has not allowed more than three runs in each of his last seven starts. He’s going to make things tough for the Orioles.

The Mariners have been on a bit of a win streak lately, going 8-2 in their last 10 games. The Orioles start Chris Tillman, who has all right numbers. In his last three starts, his ERA is 3.57. He’s been getting some good run support. In his last three starts, the Orioles have scored 20 runs.

That offense will be a bit tougher to come by this game.

Look for the Mariners to win a rather low-scoring game.

Take Seattle.
